Highly recommend you order the $19.99 case. I typically load the courses I usually play and those I plan to play in the future. It is definitely rugged as I have dropped on the fairway and cart path several times. It's sharp looking and securely holds the unit in place. This unit beats looking for yard markers any day. I know some people don't like to download courses but the does require some planning. The Igolf Neo does everything the other gps units do for half the cost.
I can get 4 or 5 rounds in before I need to recharge the unit. Switching out courses is easy. The only negative I can see is the carrying case that comes with it is a piece of junk. When golfing, all you really want to know is how far to the front, center, and back of the pen. You can load up to 10 courses. However, it is a good idea to calibrate the unit with available yard markers.Best value for the money. You can add other data points as needed.Battery life is pretty good.
Downloading courses are no big deal.
I like the IGolf (really got the Bushnell Neo) for its ease of operation and size.
I was able to measure the distance of my last shot as well as have the distance to the center of the green on that same hole at the same time. I recommended it to other players in my league that were surprised at the size and the info it gave for each hole including distances to greens and hazards. The first time I used this GPS on a course I have been playing for many years in a weekly league, I dropped my score 8 strokes. Very convienient and again simple to use. Great GPS for the price. I played the best round ever on this course. The numbers are true, the information is correct, and it is so easy to use.
However, I still needed to contact them and download a "patch" to get the software loaded on my iMac and working properly. The operation is very simple. Quality of construction is excellent and battery life quite good (a 5 hr round only uses up 20-30% of the juice). I bought my iGOLF Neo through Amazon for $139. 5 out of 5 and an excellent value. No more looking for sprinkler heads. Why pay more.
Next, I paid my $35 on-line and downloaded all the local courses. The "shot" distance feature is fun to use for drives, although I quickly learned my drives were often 10-20 yds shorter than I had previously thought. It is also very useful on wedge shots, especially in the 40-80 yd range, where I often used to guess wrong or make a poor swing due to uncertainly about the distance. This was very quick and easy. It helps most on par 3s w/ multiple tees and no other yardage info.
I was worried about the software working on my Mac, but their customer service assured me it would be OK. The distance accuracy (GPS function) seems perfect. For an 11+hcp the distance to the center of the green is totally adequate information. Their customer service was very prompt and helpful by phone and e-mail and this part was a minor issue. I've used it 4 times on 4 separate courses.
But it fits in a pocket so easily that the holster is not necessary. The plastic holster that comes with it is not good; mine hasn't broken yet but the unit has fallen out a couple of times. Overall a good bargain, even when compared to the high-priced GPS units. The iGolf neo does exactly what it is advertised to do - It gives you accurate distances, it is easy to use, it has a good battery life, and it is easy to carry. I had some problems downloading course data to the unit until I installed an updated version of the software and it seems to be working well now.
